Biography
Dr. Pyrgos received his medical degree from the Albert Szent-Gyorgyi Medical School in Hungary. After returning to the U.S., he completed his Internal Medicine residency at the Franklin Square Hospital at the University of Maryland training program. Following this, he continued his training in Infectious Diseases at the Washington Hospital Center at the Georgetown University training program.
He then worked at the National Institutes of Health and spent several years studying fungal infections with some of the world’s leaders in fungal diseases. The patients he treated were referred from all over the United States and internationally. During the last years there he studied the interaction between the immune system and fungi and worked with patients suffering from rare and poorly understood immune defects.
Dr. Pyrgos joined the Montgomery Infectious Disease Associates in March of 2013. In private practice, he has been focusing on more common infectious diseases seen in the community such as drug-resistant bacterial infections and HIV and its complications.
